-Please tell us your biography up to now.

Kuriyama I started playing the piano when I was four years old, and after working at Toho Girls' High School Music Department, I am currently a fourth year student at Toho Gakuen University Piano Department.
-When did you want to study abroad?

Kuriyama: I had vaguely wanted to study abroad since I came to Tokyo, but I really wanted to study abroad when I was in the second year of university.
-What was the trigger?

Kuriyama: In October of my second year at university, I took a public lesson with Bruno Rigut sensei at school and wanted to study under this sensei.
-Did you choose the overseas class because you had Rigut sensei?

Kuriyama Before my second year at university, I just vaguely wanted to go abroad.Courchevel Summer International Music AcademyI participated in.I wasn't particularly familiar with sensei, and I didn't attend the Courchevel class just because I wanted to learn this sensei.afterwards,Cagliari Summer International Music AcademyWhen I participated in, my purpose was to study under Bruno Rigut sensei.
- Cagliari Summer International Music AcademyHow long did it take to prepare to participate in?

Kuriyama: I took a public lesson in October, and when I asked, "When will you be in Japan next?", "I haven't planned yet, so please attend the class in Sardinia. The environment is very good. I said, so I prepared immediately after the public lesson. It's been about a year ago (laughs). At that time, I was asked to study this song, so I took it to the class.
-Is Cagliari difficult to reach due to its location?

Kuriyama: People who are already studying abroad in Europe have said that it is easy to go to Courchevel by train.Cagliari has to fly from Rome to Cagliari, but I don't think it's particularly difficult from Japan.
-What was Cagliari's airport?

Kuriyama It's a fairly small airport.
-Did the transfer come properly?

Kuriyama It was okay.It seems that everyone is on the same plane. So we all got on the shuttle bus together.
- Cagliari Summer International Music AcademyWhat kind of impression was the class?

Kuriyama It was a very good class. There were many people who attended the National Conservatory of Music in Paris and those who were still in school, and the level was quite high.

At the competition
-Do you feel that you do not recommend it to people who are not confident?

I think it depends on Kuriyama sensei.Rigut sensei is a tough person, so if you don't practice properly, the lesson will end in 10 minutes, or you will be asked, "Did you come on vacation!"
- Cagliari Summer International Music AcademyCan you tell me your daily schedule?

Kuriyama I woke up around XNUMX o'clock in the morning and immediately went to school to practice.I took lessons on days when I had lessons, and listened to other people's lessons all the time when I didn't have lessons.
-What time does the lesson itself start?

Kuriyama Rigut sensei was from around 13:9, but Luisada sensei was from XNUMXam.
-What time did you finish?

Kuriyama It's about XNUMX o'clock.
-How did you decide on the lesson schedule?

Kuriyama Rigut sensei knew all the lesson schedules on the first day.Only on the first day, I will say "What time do you want?" And take hope, and then take lessons in that order. There were four 60-minute private lessons in total.Luisada sensei didn't seem to know the lesson schedule until that day. So the schedule method is quite different depending on sensei.Luisada sensei was like a group lesson at the end.
-If you don't make your own wishes, will it be the last lesson?

Kuriyama That's right.I think it's important to claim that you'll do it first.
-In what language did you take the lesson?

Kuriyama I did it in French.
-How long have you been studying French?

Kuriyama: I take French lessons from high school in class, but I think that I have to do it seriously because I met Rigut sensei, so I go to a language school about once a week.
-Did the lesson in French go smoothly?

Kuriyama The lesson was okay.At that time, Michel Béroff's super piano lesson was being broadcast on TV, so I checked the musical terms.
-How much did you practice in the class?

Kuriyama I was able to practice for four hours every day.
-Do you make a reservation for four hours every day?

Kuriyama Like Italy, the reservation system changes every time (laughs).Basically, I go to the office on the day and make a reservation by myself from what time to what time. However, there are days when I can make a reservation suddenly the day before (laughs).I don't know why I can make a reservation (laughs).
-Did the office work be Italian?

Kuriyama Yes.But there was one Italian who could speak Japanese, and that person was very useful to Japanese people.

Toho Gakuen University 4th year
-Do you feel like practicing before the lesson?

Kuriyama For example, if I had four hours of practice time, I would practice two hours before the lesson and two hours after the lesson.Since the venue for the workshop was Cagliari's Conservatory, there were quite a few grand pianos. However, some pianos had broken keys (laughs).
-Did many Japanese participate?

Kuriyama Courchevel Summer International Music AcademyCompared to other famous summer classes, I think there are probably few Japanese.Cagliari Summer International Music AcademyThere were a lot of French and Italians. Also, there were really many Koreans. However, I think that the number of Japanese people will increase in this class in the future.
-Are Koreans as solid as Japanese?

Kuriyama: I think it's more solid than the Japanese.Rigut sensei said that it was not good, so there was a dinner party only under Rigut on the second day from the last day, but I decided all the seats so that the race would not be solidified. ..
-Is there anything you should do well before studying abroad?

Kuriyama practice!
-Did you have a concert at the seminar?

Kuriyama sensei has a concert for three days, starting around XNUMX pm and ending at around XNUMX pm.It is unique to overseas.I was really impressed with the concert because all of them are really wonderful sensei. There was a lot of chamber music, and the only solo was Luisada sensei. The rest is duo and chamber music. There was also sensei who was doing a concerto with the chamber ensemble and the piano.
-What kind of place is your accommodation?

Kuriyama Student dormitory.I was able to live comfortably with a refrigerator, bed and shower bath. But on the first day, I was surprised that the hot water in the shower was only brown. The kitchen was shared.I used it several times, but it was so crowded that I was eating out.
-How much did it cost to eat out?

Kuriyama I think it's about 20-30 euros to make the night gorgeous. But it was delicious (laughs).Since the euro is high, Japanese yen may be expensive.I don't think prices are so high.
-Did you walk to the school and the dormitory?

Kuriyama: It's not a distance you can't walk, but I think it's about XNUMX minutes by bus. When the concert was around XNUMX o'clock in the evening, I had to walk home because there was no last bus.It was pitch black, but it was very safe. I thought the Cagliari people were also very warm.
-Did you suffer any damage such as pickpockets?

Kuriyama wasn't there.Everyone was really kind.
-Did the bus run on time every day?

Kuriyama I think it was on time. The bus was coming every tenth place.Buses come frequently.
-Did the attitude of the people around you studying differ from that of Japan?

Kuriyama: I've heard Westerners say, "What kind of practice should I do here?" In Japan, "think for yourself" (laughs).Foreign sensei teaches me very kindly, so I thought it would be okay to ask that.

Cagliari with friends
-Did you have any tips for getting along well with people from overseas?

Kuriyama That is to be alone (laughs). When he is Japanese, he is easily shunned by other people.First of all, I tried to talk to people in the same class.By doing so, I was able to meet friends who would keep in touch even after returning to Japan.
-Did you have any moments when you were happy to attend the seminar?

Kuriyama Everything was fresh! There are many difficult things, but I was delighted with the small things. There were many wonderful sensei people, and the performances of the people studying at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris were also wonderful.Just being there really made me feel different.Besides, the good thing about this class is that there is no audition, so if you decide early, you can get the desired sensei.
-I'm glad you went.

Kuriyama Really (laughs).
-Did you think that you have changed or grown up after studying abroad?

Kuriyama: I've become patient (laughs). There are so many things that have changed, and the office work isn't working well in Italy, but it may be possible to respond flexibly.I feel like it has become wider in a good way.But when I wasn't convinced, I realized that I had to tell the other person.
-What was the major difference from Japan when you studied abroad?

Kuriyama: The system changes depending on the day (laughs). But if you insist that you are not convinced, they will respond. So the claim may be really important.
-Is there anything you would like to give advice to those who will study abroad in the future?

Kuriyama: Unlike Japan, there are many things that can't be done in a straightforward manner overseas, but I think we can do it if we are prepared to solve it someday.Japanese who are already studying abroad have participated in the summer class quite a lot, so I can listen to various stories from my seniors, so I think that those who want to study abroad will definitely study. sensei also brought in the best students from sensei, so it was really a learning experience.Besides, Cagliari had a nice climate, so the feelings of sensei and others were easygoing (laughs). It seems that some people went to the sea with the violin sensei. If you want to learn from this sensei, it will be a very fulfilling class.
-What are your future activities?

Kuriyama I want to graduate from Toho Gakuen College and study abroad in Paris. But before that, in December of this year (2007), I will be co-starring with the Czech Philharmonic horn player in a duo.
-I'm looking forward to the concert.Thank you very much.
