Haruka Ando Profile
Started playing the piano at the age of four.Graduated from Ueno Gakuen University, Faculty of Music, Department of Music.Ecole Normal ConservatoryProfessor RamjiyassaTake lessons (and vision special program).

――First of all, please tell us your biography so far.

Ando Ueno Gakuen High School Music Department After graduating from the piano specialty, he entered the music department of Ueno Gakuen University and was studying a composer named Francis Poulenc.
――Until now, you were mainly studying piano performance and music.

Ando Yes, that's right.
――How did you do after graduation?

Ando: I'm in the office of foreign exchange, but about the second year since I became a member of society, I wanted to play the piano again and resumed.I participated in the audition of the Piano Education Federation and the final selection of the Japanese Classical Music Competition.
――It's amazing. So, what made you decide to study abroad this time?

Ando My friend who studied abroad in Vienna came back, and I was directly influenced by hearing the story.
――Why did you choose Yassa sensei in Paris?

I wanted to go to Paris where Ando Poulenc spent his time, and I heard from the sensei that I have now that Yassa sensei is a very nice, kind, and well-looked sensei, so I chose it.
――Do you know sensei with Yassa sensei?

Ando No. It seems that he had a friend of sensei.
――How was the actual lesson?

Ando It was a very nice lesson because he was very warm, kind, expressive, and enthusiastic about teaching.
――What kind of teaching is it?

Ando He played and explained by himself. After that, he likens sounds and techniques to things, and the metaphors were very good and easy to understand.
――For example, what kind of metaphor did you have?

Ando: Where the chords change, it's an expression that Japanese people don't like, such as "a fish came out of a chocolate box," but it was very easy to understand with a rich expression. After that, when it was better to make one of the chords, he told me that it would be difficult to use if things were evenly placed on the desk.
――What kind of song did you practice?

Ando Chopin's Ballade No. 4, Debussy's prints to "Tower", Brahms' "Four Pieces", Ginastera's Argentine Dance, Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 31 and more.

――Are there any impressive teaching methods in these songs?

Ando After all, it was impressive that Debussy played with the color of the sound. How to feel beautiful harmony in Brahms. After that, sensei explained Chopin and Beethoven by playing all movements, and I was very impressed.
――It's a luxury.

Ando Yes (laughs).
――Do you feel that sensei actually plays and teaches you both technical and musical things such as how to use your hands?

Ando That's right. For example, sensei actually showed me that when you open the key, you turn your elbows, so use your elbows for the piano and play with your entire arm.
――How did the three lessons proceed?

Ando In the first lesson, he taught Debussy and ballads.First, sensei played all the ballads, paid attention to the points, and was told to fix the ballads by the next lesson. The second lesson saw Ballard and Brahms. The ballad has improved a bit, so I was told to fix Brahms and likewise fix Brahms by the third lesson. The final third lesson was Brahms's fix, Ginastera's three songs, Beethoven and much more.
――Then, the 60-minute lesson time seems to be short.

Ando That's right. But he did it a little longer (laughs).
- Is that so.How long have you been doing it?

Ando I think it was extended by about 1 hour to a total of about 2 hours.
―― Ando had an interpreter for the first and last lessons, and did not have an interpreter for the second time.In what language did you take the lesson?

Ando The first and third lessons were taught in French, and the second was taught in English.
――How was your lesson in English?

Ando After all, he talks to me directly without an interpreter, so the second time was more intimate than the first time. When I had an interpreter, I sometimes looked at the interpreter and talked to him and listened to it, so I sometimes wondered how to communicate.
――What kind of person was the interpreter?

Ando He was a very friendly, kind, cheerful and easy-to-speak person.
――Is the interpreter during the lesson easy to understand?

Ando Yes.I was good at it.
――If you take a lesson next time, do you have an interpreter or not?

Ando That's right. After all, there are some parts that I can't hear and some parts that are difficult to understand, such as nuances, so I felt that it would be better to have an interpreter.
――Did you study the language in advance?

Ando: I had been studying reading French for four years when I was in college, but since I had no conversation, I listened to a little CD and remembered some elementary things, such as how to listen to the road and numbers. went.
--Did it help you over there?

Ando It was useful when actually asking for directions, but it was difficult for me to have a conversation with other students at my homestay.

At homestay
――Did you come from various countries to your homestay?

Ando Yes.There were people from America and Venezuela.
――Communicate with them in English?

Ando Yes.At first I was forced to talk in French, but at the end it was in English (laughs).
――Are there any tips for getting along well with foreigners?

Ando Well, after all it is necessary to study the language properly. Also, I think it's important to keep smiling.
――What was your homestay like?

Ando It was a very clean and spacious room. The windows were big and the wallpaper was a leaf pattern on a white background, so it was more fashionable than in Japan.
――How big was your room?

Ando It was very wide. There was about XNUMX tatami mats. The room had a bed, desk, TV, drawer furniture, and a rack for things.Hangers were also available.Besides, it was very comfortable because there was a sink, a restroom and a bath in the room.I was free to use the washroom and bath at any time, and I had free time to go home, so I sometimes stayed at school until late.
――Isn't it dangerous because you got home late?

Ando: There were more tourists than I expected, and there were many people who had maps like me, so I didn't feel much danger.
――Why did you move your accommodation and lesson venue?

I was traveling by Ando Metro.
--Did you have any problems with changing trains?

Ando It was easy to understand, so it was okay.It may have been harder to walk after getting off the metro.

Entrance to the practice room in Paris
――What kind of place was the venue of the practice room?

Ando: It's on the campus of University, but even if I asked "Where is this?" At the entrance, it was in a place that was so difficult to understand that no one could understand. In the end, I found the word "studio" on the map and arrived at it, but it was a little dark because it was in the basement of the university. The practice room was also underground, so it was a little dark.
――How was the condition of the piano?

Ando Yamaha's uppright piano, I think it was in good condition.
――How long have you been practicing?

Paris practice room
Ando 16 hours. The older brother at the reception talked to me a lot and was kind, so I asked him to change the practice time according to the lesson.
――What were you doing outside of practice?

Ando I've been walking around Paris all the time (laughs).
――Are there any recommended places?

The stained glass of Ando Notre Dame Cathedral and Sainte Chapelle was beautiful.
--Did you eat out?

Ando I ate about twice at the China restaurant in front of my homestay.
――How much is the price?

Ando It was about 10 euros.
――How was the taste?

The Ando China restaurant was delicious, but some of the cafes I entered in the town had a strong quiche taste. What I bought at the supermarket was very cheap and I liked it.
――What was your meal other than eating out?

Ando I brought retort pouch food from Japan.I put the water I bought at the mountain goods store and waited for an hour to bring something that would make red rice.I wanted rice, so I prepared something like that.
--Did you buy the water over there?

Ando I brought it from Japan, but I sold a lot over there.
――Did you prepare anything else?

Notre Dame
Ando I wanted to go sightseeing if I had a little time, so I took something like Soyjoy or Calorie Mate and used it for lunch when I didn't have time, but it was very convenient.
――Did you have a moment when you were happy to participate in the short-term study abroad program?

Ando: That's sensei's guidance, such as "fish from a chocolate box," which I talked about earlier (laughs). After that, he expressed the painful feelings of Beethoven's later years by playing.
Was very impressed.
――When you study abroad this time, do you think that something has changed or that you have grown up?

Ando: As with technical matters, I think the way of thinking has changed a little.I have become more flexible in thinking about things. After all, it was a good stimulus to see a different world.
――For example, what kind of part is it?

Ando: Before, I was nervous at the actual performance, and I was disappointed by a little thing. However, after studying abroad, I felt that I was catching music even bigger over there.
――The view of music, or more broadly, the view of life has changed.

Ando That's right.I came to think that it would be a loss if I had to entertain.Even in Japan, I was taught by strict sensei, but it was just abusive ...When I met this sensei (Lambsey Yassa sensei), I thought that there is such a sensei who is kind and has the ability.
――I'm glad you took such a sensei lesson.

Ando Yes.very.
-Did the sound change?

Ando Yes, it has changed.I think Brahms in particular has changed.
――Did you think of music in a completely different way?

Ando: There are places where the same thing is said, but it's even easier to understand, and there are many parts that can be conveyed in one go.It was very easy to understand because he actually played it.
――Are there any major differences between Japan and your study abroad destination?

Ando In Japan, only new things are cherished, but in Paris, new and old things are cherished in the same way. Also, there are pictures in my house, cafe, and Chinese restaurant, and I think that color and taste are very important.I felt that I couldn't understand the music that was born there unless I went there.I think I could understand Poulenc's music, which I was studying in Japan, by actually visiting Paris.
――Is there anything you should do well before studying abroad?

Ando I got a detailed map, checked where to walk, and made a solid daily plan, but I'm glad I did that.
--Did you have any problems with French and English?

Ando That's right.I got it.Before I went, I heard that France is the No. 1 country where Japanese people don't want to go once they go because they speak French, but if they get lost, they can talk to me in Japanese and be kind to me. There was also. The aunt at the restaurant also spoke in Japanese.

With the homestay landlord
--Did you have the opportunity to interact with the landlord of your homestay?

Ando He met me face to face when he ate breakfast and talked to me each time. When I first entered the house, he kindly taught me how to lock, praised my poor French, lost my orange card, lessons, sightseeing, and so on. He was really very kind.
――Please give some advice to those who will study abroad in the future.

Ando It was very good for me to have a plan to study abroad even for a week.I want to tell people who are wondering that they can fulfill their dreams even if they become members of society and their time is reduced. As with all, age doesn't matter. After studying abroad, I realized that I should do it when I want to go.
――How was your plan of 1 lessons in a week?

Ando I felt it was short. If I stayed a little longer, I think it would have changed even more. However, at the current company, I can only take a week off in a row, so I am satisfied because I have done everything I can in the current environment.I'm really glad that I studied abroad in my dreams.
――Now you are working and finding time to practice.

Ando That's right.
――How long have you been practicing?

Ando You can do it all day on weekends, but it's about two hours on weekdays.
――Please tell us your future plans.

Ando In October and March, we will have concerts with clarinet, flute ensemble, and duet. After that, I will perform on a cruise ship in August and perform at my alma mater's school festival in November.
――You are doing a lot of performance activities, aren't you?Thank you very much today.
