Yasuko YUKIMOTO
Profile of Yasuko Yukimoto
Started playing the piano at the age of 4, and turned to the cello at the age of 14.Currently enrolled in the cello department of the Faculty of Music, Toho Gakuen University.Currently in 4th grade. Participated in the 2008 Vienna International Music Seminar.

――First of all, please introduce yourself briefly.

Yukimoto: I've been playing the piano for about 4 years since I was 10 years old, but when I was thinking of quitting because I hated it a little, I happened to hear a small recital, and the cello's famous song " After listening to "Swan", I wanted to play the cello. So I started playing the cello at the age of 14 and went on to Toho Gakuen University.I am currently in the 4th grade.
――Have you ever attended a class?

Yukimoto: In Japan, I have participated in the personal things of sensei that I had attached and the things that sensei is called as a lecturer a couple of times.
――So is this your first overseas class?

Yukimoto Yes, that's right. This was my first time to go abroad.
――So why did you decide to attend this class?

Yukimoto: Since last year, I've been looking for a class on the condition that I know sensei in a German-speaking world, but last year I didn't attend because I didn't know sensei. This time, I happened to have the name of Stephan sensei, who had been seen twice in Japan, so I decided to participate.
- So that's it. sensei is Stefan Kropfitsch sensei, isn't it?Did you have a good impression since you were taught before?

Yukimoto He is very good and has a good personality.I'm not a person who is devoted to teaching, but sensei teaches me the important things in playing.

Heuriger in Vienna
――How many people attended the seminar?

I think there were about 0 people in total. There were four cellos. There is another Japanese person besides me.I think I'm a junior high school student in South Korea, and an Austrian child because I spoke German, but I wanted to attend the music college in Vienna, which is the venue.
--Did you have the opportunity to listen to other students' performances?

Yukimoto I couldn't listen to the performance of the Korean child, but I did listen to the performances of the other two.Japanese children had lessons before and after, so I always attended.
――How was the atmosphere of the lesson?

Yukimoto: Maybe if it's your first time to see sensei, I think you'll see what it's like, but in my case, I've seen it in Japan and remember sensei as well. So, from the beginning, a fairly full-scale lesson started. It was four or five years ago that you saw it before, so I think it has changed, but I think you took it seriously in consideration of your age.
――Is there anything that left an impression on you in the lesson?

Yukimoto The most useful thing is how to relax.Even in Japan, it is often said to "relax your strength", but I was in trouble because it didn't tell me exactly what to do.On the contrary, Stephan sensei did not say a single word "relax", but specifically said "do this" a few times. When I think about it later, I thought that the way I played it would eventually lose my strength.
――Is there anything else?

Yukimoto: While playing during the lesson, I was instructed to do this, but at the end of the lesson, I always said, "The most important thing in today's lesson is ..." and the important point of the day. He talks in one or two.I think it was great because sensei narrowed down my view of the day.
- So that's it.

Yukimoto This time, I had Schubert because it was included in the theme song of the competition, but since it is a song by a Viennese composer and sensei is also from Vienna, "Vienna's classical school plays like this. I feel that he watched it more carefully than other songs.
――Are there any specific words that could be helpful?

Yukimoto Heuriger was told to go to a bar where you can drink wine while listening to a performance such as a violin and see a cheerful person. You should take a look to get a feel for the song. When I actually went there, everyone seemed to have a lot of fun, and I felt that I understood a little about "Oh, that's what it is."As a Japanese tourist, he talked to me from the other side, and played while singing "Let's walk upward" and nursery rhymes.
――It's a good experience.Has the performance actually changed?

Yukimoto: I didn't really understand the change, but when I played at the participant concert, the Japanese sensei, who was called as a lecturer, said, "I'm glad that the feeling of Stephan sensei came out very much. He said.I wondered if it changed after taking the lesson of Stephan sensei.

――Please tell me the lesson schedule.

Yukimoto I had sensei see me on Monday and Thursday, and I had a total of 4 lessons on Monday and Thursday. There was a couple of days between lessons, so it was a good pace.
――Is the lesson one hour?

Yukimoto Yes, it's just an hour.
--Did you feel unsatisfied?

Yukimoto I didn't feel it. I had two weeks and four lessons in it, so I thought it was enough.
――Please tell us about the schedule that was set up at the seminar.

Yukimoto On the first day, there was an opening event in a place like a small hall.First, there was a concert of three or four children of the participants, and then we received a rough explanation of the seminar. Finally, there was a light party like sandwiches and drinks.
――Is there anything else in total?

On the 13th of Yukimoto (the 2rd day of the class), there was a concert by sensei and others. Two pianos and four sensei, viola and cello, played from among the sensei.Stephan sensei of the cello played Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rokoko-style theme" at the very end, but it was very well received and the students of other musical instruments who listened to it were also taught by Stephan sensei. I was talking about wanting.
――On the 13th, after taking one lesson, right?

Yukimoto Yes. Because there was the first lesson on the first day of the 11th.
――Then, did you look forward to the future Stephan sensei lessons?

Yukimoto That's right (laughs).
――Are there any other concerts?

Yukimoto Yes.The venue was changed and it was held in a small castle with the Schubert Memorial next to it, not in Haydn's birthplace.I played it here, but since this venue sounded more than the school hall than the opening event hall, I think the sound was the best in this class.
――It's a rare situation in Japan, isn't it?How did you feel about playing at a castle in Vienna?

Yukimoto It was really good. All the other students envied me if I wanted to play it here too (laughs).
――How many people played at the concert at the castle?

There are about 12 people in the line.
――How many songs did you play?

For each song, I consulted with sensei and decided which song to play.
――I think the competition was planned, did you participate?

Yukimoto No, I wasn't able to participate. The participants were playing two songs as excerpts. It wasn't that formal, it wasn't much different from a participant concert.
――After that, there was a winner concert among the people selected in that competition, right?

Yukimoto That's right.About 12 people took part in the competition, and 10 people won the award. The atmosphere changed a little, as the person playing in black pants was playing in a dress.
――Is the winner's concert the last event during the course?

Yukimoto Yes, that's right.
――Where did you practice?

I was able to make a sound at the Yukimoto Hotel from 9 am to 8 pm, so I practiced at the hotel.I had a lot of time to play.
--Did you hear other people's sounds?

Yukimoto: It was a rule to close the window and play, but perhaps I could hear the sound of the person playing with the window open. However, I didn't care so much.
――What did you do outside of the lesson?

I went out of the line and was sightseeing in the city.
――How was the city of Vienna?

Yukimoto The first impression is that everything is big.I went to places listed in guidebooks, Schönbrunn Palace, Maria Theresia Square, etc.
――Are there any recommendations?

Belvedere Palace near the hotel. When I was staying, I was doing an exhibition of Klimt's paintings inside.Next is the Van Gogh exhibition. It was fun and I felt like I could stay there for hours.
――How much was the admission fee?

Yukimoto I didn't have an International Student Identity Card, so it was around 8-9 euros.
――What kind of place was your hotel?

Yukimoto I wanted a single room. There was no inconvenience in the room itself, and I could rent a hair dryer, so I didn't have much trouble. It was wider than a Japanese hotel.
――Is there anything you should bring from Japan?

Yukimoto Toothbrush wasn't prepared, so I think you should bring it with you.If you want to use your own shampoo, conditioner, and soap, you should prepare them.
――How was the response of the hotel staff?

Yukimoto I think it was pretty good. When I told him where I wanted to go, he checked the train time.
――Are the other participants at the same hotel?

Yukimoto Yes.Most of them stayed in the same place. The lesson time was different, but the kitchen was shared, so I was looking forward to meeting and talking there. At first I was eating out, but it's expensive every day, so I tried to cook for myself from the middle.
――You cooked yourself. What were the ingredients?

There was a supermarket near the hotel, so I bought it there.
――How much did you eat out?

Yukimoto Chinese food and other cheap places cost around 5 euros. It was about 8 euros to eat at a restaurant near the hotel with other people from Japan.I was full with the soup, main dish and dessert coming out.Speaking of expensive, it is expensive, but I also felt that it was like this.
――Which country had more participants?

Yukimoto About XNUMX% were Japanese. The rest were Italian, Korean and Norwegian.
――Are there any tips for getting along well with foreigners?

Yukimoto Participants other than Japanese did not talk to me from the other side unless it was a special occasion, perhaps because the Japanese were in a group and it was difficult to enter. So I talked more often from here. When I talked to him, he understood me even in a single word of appropriate English, and he kindly spoke slowly so that I could understand it easily.
--Did you have any problems during your stay?

Yukimoto It's not a problem, but the breakfast at the hotel was the same every day ... (laughs). The content of the buffet was exactly the same even though there were few types. I don't think it's a problem for about a week, but it was a little tight for two weeks or more. There were 1 types of bread, 2 types of ham, 2 types of cheese, watermelon, tomato, and drinks such as milk, juice, coffee, and tea.
――How was the traffic in Vienna?

Yukimoto I felt like I could go anywhere once I got on the train. There aren't many metro lines like in Japan, so I didn't get lost.I bought an unlimited ride ticket.
――Is the city of Vienna easy to spend?

Yukimoto I think it's the difference between Japan and foreign countries, but he talked to me a lot.Sometimes I talked not only to the shop staff but also to the local customers who came to shop there. When I was looking at a picture postcard of a rabbit, a local customer who was there compared the picture postcard with my face and said, "It looks alike" ...I felt that such a thing was not in Japan. Also, I don't think there are many Japanese people who can speak English, but in Vienna, most of them speak English as well as German, which was helpful.
――It's a city that is easy to reach even for the first time.

Yukimoto Yes.I was able to go ... (laughs).

Travel to Salzburg!
――Are there any places where you feel that you have grown up by studying abroad this time?

By observing the participants around Yukimoto, I somehow realized that a positive person could grasp something.I was watching the situation for the first week, but in the second half, I thought I would talk to foreigners as well as Japanese, so I was active.
――Did you feel glad that you attended the seminar?

When I played at the castle at the participant concert on the 17th (XNUMXth day of the class), an Italian clarinet boy liked my cello, and from the time of the last piano match, "OK." He said, "It's okay," and he applauded me even after the performance was over.So he asked me, "Why don't you play chamber music?"In the end, I couldn't make the schedule because I couldn't make it, but I was very happy to say that. After returning to Japan, I'm emailing him.
――Did you have any other good experience?

Yukimoto: It's not directly related to the class, but the woman sitting next to me on the flight to the destination helped me to change trains, and even on the return flight, I talked with the stewardess about the seat ticket for the cello. When I wasn't able to communicate, a Japanese woman came in and helped me as an interpreter.A man sitting next to me on the last plane from Amsterdam to Narita said, "I play the contrabass as a hobby."The person also gave me a business card and said, "Please contact me when there is a concert."I had a lot of encounters on the plane and it was fun (laughs).
――It may be easier to talk to you if you have an instrument.

Yukimoto That may be the case.By the way, another Japanese cello kid said that he borrowed an instrument locally and brought only a bow.The instrument I borrowed was a very good instrument and she seemed to like it, so I made a note of the date and name of the production (laughs).
――Did Yukimoto's instrument change the way the sound sounds over there?

Yukimoto: I hear that the sound is better because it's much drier than in Japan, but I think it doesn't change that much because my instrument isn't so good. I did. However, the humidity is higher in Japan, so I don't think it's possible to go over there and stop ringing.
――What else did you feel while studying abroad?

Yukimoto After all, I thought that language was important.I think it will be possible if there is a desire to speak, but I thought it would be easier to convey if I knew various words.
――If so, does the advice for those studying abroad also mean that you should study a language?

Yukimoto That's right. However, I think it's important to talk more and more even if you haven't studied so much in advance. Also, as an advice, I think it is important to choose sensei.I haven't felt a gap since the lesson started because I was taught by sensei, which I know, but it seems that some people do.It's best to be taught by a sensei that you know, but even a little sensei that you don't know is fine, so I think it's better to catch the information before you go, and you won't be surprised after you go over there.
――Please tell us your plans for future activities.

Yukimoto: I don't have a specific idea for this, but after graduating, I decided to take advantage of this summer's experience and try anything.Until now, I've always wanted to be on the front stage, but even if it's not the case, I'm wondering if I'd be happy if I could enjoy playing anywhere. That's why I've come to think of playing no matter how small my work is.
――Did it have any influence in Vienna?

Yukimoto That's right.Unlike Japanese people, foreigners play a lot of fun, and people in the city are interested in having musical instruments, and there is an atmosphere in the city where music is played naturally.
――I hope you can continue to enjoy music.Thank you very much today.
