Azusa FUSE
Profile of Azusa Fuse
Graduated from the Faculty of Music, Ferris University.Renato Bilingual(Language school)Pete Marin BerniTake sensei's jazz piano lesson.

-First of all, please introduce yourself.

I graduated from the music department of Fuse Ferris Girls' Academy in March.I've been studying jazz piano for 3 years.I started playing the piano when I was 4 years old, and until high school I was learning the classic piano.
-What made you change from classic to jazz?

Fuse I attended the music department for three years at high school, and since I was only doing classical music, I wanted to jump into another world, so I started jazz.
-Have you ever attended a class or took a sensei lesson abroad?

Fuse I have never done it.
-Have you ever traveled abroad?

Fuse Yes, I had the opportunity to go to Hawaii.
-This time, you studied abroad as a set of language lessons and music lessons. What made you decide to take it?

Fuse As a culmination of my university life, I wanted to study in New York, the home of jazz piano, and I wanted to raise my language level as much as possible.
-Is there any purpose in the future that you wanted to improve your language level?

Fuse I would like to study abroad again in the future. For that reason, I wanted to be able to have a conversation, so this time I went to New York for a preview.
-Did you have a preview?

Fuse I have thoroughly previewed the atmosphere of the city! (Laughs) However, I found it quite difficult to have a conversation.Even if I knew the grammar, I felt that it was very difficult to say what I was thinking in conversation.
-Even if you want to say something like this in your head, do you feel that you can't easily put it into words?

Fuse That's right.I felt a lot of regret and frustration that I couldn't say.

Renato Bilingual Completion Certificate
-I would like to hear your impressions of each lesson. First of all, how was your language lesson?

Fuse Renato (language school) is a small class of 7 to 8 students, most of which are conversation classes.
-How many Japanese were there?

Fuse There was only one other than me.There were many Spaniards, and there were also Mexico, Brazil, and France.
-Did you get along with other students?

Fuse Yes.I was able to make friends. At the site, we went to dinner together and exchanged emails even after returning to Japan.
-So you had the opportunity to exchange English outside of school.

Fuse That's right. It was quite difficult, but ... (laughs).
-Is it like ... with gestures?

Fuse That's right.I used a lot of gestures and pointing to communicate. If you talk about it with the desire to convey it with all your might, you will usually understand the other side as well. I was like, "Oh! I understand, I understand!"
-So how was your music lesson? This time, you took the music lesson introduced by the language school and the Pete Marin Berni sensei lesson introduced by us.

Fuse What the two sensei had in common was that they entered from their sensibilities.Specifically, I felt that it was different from Japan, with the feeling that "First of all, play as you like."After all, in Japan, it seems that you can enter from the shape ..., I feel like "If you teach me this, play this", but in New York, I entered from the place of "play freely", a little But when I played it, it praised me so much that I really enjoyed playing it.
-What did each sensei learn?

Forno sensei, who was introduced at Fuse Leonard, is a person who specializes in Latin jazz, so he taught me bossa nova, and Marin Berni sensei taught me standard jazz.
-How did the Marin Berni sensei lesson go?

It was like arranging and playing the songs in the Fuse Standard Jazz book by myself and getting comments from sensei.
-It looks difficult.

Fuse It was quite difficult (laughs).I also played with sensei.
-Did you often play the piano during the lesson?

Fuse That's right.I was playing it all the time. When I was playing, sensei came in and I felt like I was having a conversation with sound (laughs). So it was a really fun lesson.
-What kind of person was Marine Berni sensei?

Fuse First of all, he was very handsome (laughs). He was very kind, calm and interesting. That was also reflected in the lesson.
-How long was one lesson?

Fuse is 1 hour. The atmosphere at that time sometimes extended a little.
-What did you learn new from this lesson?

Fuse I felt that I had to listen to more of the piano playing methods of various people.Through the lessons, I learned to listen, copy, and create my own sound from it.As for ad lib, I used to think that I could play it as I like, but when I was told to "play like speaking", it actually connects the sounds like a phrase in words. I learned.
-That was a new discovery.

Fuse That's right. Therefore, it is a great harvest to know what kind of practice should be done after returning to Japan. I also received specific advice on how to practice from sensei.
-Is there anything else impressive?

Fuse Marin Berni sensei gave us various parables. "There are many ways to live, and everyone works hard toward their ideals, but it's also common to the piano, and you have to practice every day to get the sound you want, but don't forget. It means that you will definitely enjoy it. "
-So that's it.By the way, I think I didn't have an interpreter at the time of the lesson, but was there any particular problem?

Fuse It was surprisingly pretty. I was able to understand it because sensei also talked slowly that it was one-on-one and tried to convey it somehow.
-How was your piano practice over there?

Fuse I used to stay at my homestay. There was a piano in the hallway just after entering the entrance, and I rented it.I could only play until the evening after returning from school, so I was practicing at that time. It's about an hour every day.
-Did you feel like playing the song you did in the lesson as a review?

Fuse Yes, that's right. In the next lesson, I sometimes listened to the songs I learned and practiced before.

At New York Blue Note
-What did you do outside of lessons, practice and language school?

Fuse I went shopping, went to a jazz bar, and watched ballet.I wanted to realize that I could only taste it in New York, so I went to various places.
-Did it go alone?

Fuse: No, it was really encouraging because I met a Japanese woman living in New York at a language school and went out with her. I was 38 years old and older, so I felt like a reliable older sister.
-What did the ballet go to see?

Fuse New York City Ballet.Every Monday, a $ 90 ticket costs $ 25, so I went to see them side by side.
-Speaking of jazz bars, you went there at night, right?

Fuse No, I went to a blue note brunch live. It's done at noon on Sunday and the price is a little reasonable.I went to see the performance of a Juilliard student, and I was impressed by the high level that I couldn't believe it was about the same age.
-How was the city like people living in New York?

Fuse Everyone seemed to be very busy, and various languages were flying around, and I was like, "Where is this !?"
-Did you go sightseeing outside of New York?

Fuse I also wanted to go to Boston, Washington, New Jersey, etc., but I'm sorry I didn't go there ...
-How was your homestay?

Fuse The room was really beautiful. The bed was so fluffy that I had never slept on such a bed, and the size was king size (laughs). It was like a hotel room and I was really lucky. My family was kind and my host mother once took me to an Italian restaurant. He loved me and was called "Baby" because I was young (laughs).I was happy to say "Please come again" at the end.
-How did you get to your homestay and school?

I was using the Fuse subway.I felt like changing trains at the same platform, so I was able to use it without hesitation. You can see it by looking at the signboard, so I think it's okay.
-Did you get lost?

Fuse It was hard because I got lost from the first day.I asked a person and I arrived safely, but because of that, I tried to leave my house two hours before class every day.
-Eh! It's hard.

Fuse I continued it for a week, remembered the road perfectly, and then left for about an hour late.
-How was your meal?

For Fuse lunch, I stopped by the shop on my way home from school, used a deli at night, and had something made by my host mother.
-How much was the price when eating out?

Fuse lunch was about $ 10.I spent about $ 6 at the deli at night. There's a lot of it over there, so even $ 6 is pretty full.
-I think that there were many opportunities to talk with foreigners such as language schools and lessons over there, but are there any tips for getting along with those people?

Fuse I don't think it's shy. They are people who say what they think, so if they don't do that, they can't get into the conversation.
-Did you give your opinion from the beginning?

Fuse No, I couldn't.Gradually, gradually ...I felt that I was often asked for my opinion in casual conversations and classes.I think it's really important to be proactive.
-Did you have any problems while studying abroad?

Fuse After all, you got lost. After that, I didn't have a hair dryer, so I had a hard time. Also, I often found it inconvenient for everyday items. For example, even if I bought a tissue, it was stiff, and I felt inconvenienced in the details, so I went over there and felt that the Japanese environment was really blessed.
-What was the moment when you were happy to study abroad?

Fuse The way of thinking has changed.I was able to see from another perspective what I thought was right. The horizons have expanded, saying that there is such a way of thinking. After that, I think I was able to leave Japan and learn about the goodness of Japan.
-Please tell us if you come back to Japan and think you have grown up.

Fuse: I used to envy my friends a lot, but now that I'm gone, I think I'm myself.I've only stayed for 3 weeks, but over there, there are many people who push themselves forward, so I think I also felt that I had to take myself properly and be firm. ..

Stroll around the city of New York
-What was the difference between Japan and your study abroad destination?

Fuse In terms of life, there is no interference at all.Perhaps in Japan, even if you come to a homestay, you will get caught. But over there, I felt that I had a proper private life.It was a lot easier because I shouldn't be interfered with.On the music side, I felt that the people over there had a sensation from the time they were born.I felt like I was really enjoying music.
-Please tell me what you should do well before studying abroad.

Fuse I think it's a good idea to do some preliminary research. The tissue I talked about earlier ... (laughs) It's a really small thing, but I'm really worried about that.I don't mention that in the handbook, so I think it's a good idea to ask the person who studied abroad.
-What kind of music activities are you going to do in the future?

Fuse From April, I will become a member of society and do work that has nothing to do with music, but I would like to save early and study abroad again. This time, I would like to study abroad for a little longer with just the piano.
-Thank you very much today.
