Yuko HORIE
Profile of Yuko Horie
Born in 1970.After working as a lecturer at Yamaha Music School, he is currently the president of Horie Music School.Representative of Climbing Gym Rock Jim Horie, which has a music class, an English class, a climbing class, and a design office. In viennaAlbert FranzTake a sensei piano lesson.

-First of all, please introduce yourself briefly.

Horie I started learning the piano when I was 5 years old. When I was thinking about my career in my second year of high school, I was wondering what to do, and in the end, I didn't go on to music and quit playing the piano. After that, when I was in the third year of college, my fingers became lonely and I started playing again. At that time, I was just thinking about how to get a job, and then the piano sensei at that time was a Yamaha person, but he invited me to ask, "Why don't you take Yamaha?"When I took the exam, I passed the exam, so I entered the Yamaha Music School.
-Have you been in a relationship with Yamaha ever since?

Horie No. I quit when I got married at the age of 25.I moved to my husband's parents' house, and after that I wanted to climb hard, so I used to play the piano at wedding churches from time to time.
-What made you decide to study abroad this time?

Horie: Even after raising my child, the management of the music class became stable. Then I felt like the drawer was empty and I wanted to do something. So, when I was looking for it on the website, I found And Vision's site and ordered the materials.
-It was around August, wasn't it? Did you ever think about studying abroad?

Horie That's right. While climbing, I told people I knew that I was playing the piano, and the circle gradually expanded, and now there are about 60 students in the music class. For that reason, I started thinking about playing properly about two years ago. That's why I was also attached to sensei myself. There are a lot of sensei, so I had them come to sensei who can play.In that way, I was gradually soliciting my thoughts on the piano, and this time I decided to study abroad.
-It's was so.What was the deciding factor in choosing Alberto Fran sensei?

Since it was introduced to the beginning on the Horie homepage, it was written that I thought it was a recommended sensei and that even beginners are okay, so I wanted to ask Franz sensei.
-The lesson place was Vienna, but was there anything you were attracted to?

Horie That's right.Austria is one of the best in the climbing world. There are a lot of champions from Austria and a lot of information. So I was wondering what kind of backbone Austria has.Not only that, Vienna is still a city of music and I wanted to go there.
-Then, it was all about Franz sensei, which is okay for beginners, it has something to do with climbing, and it's a city of music.

Horie That's right. Also, I was worried that people with very high aspirations would go to study abroad in music, but I was able to show the experiences of people of the same level, so I applied with confidence.
-Did you study German before studying abroad?

Horie No.It was a sudden thing ... I even bought a "pointing Austrian book".I wondered if I could somehow convey it by pointing my finger.
-Are there any useful phrases in the book?

Horie: I rarely opened the book over there.Since it is a country where English is spoken, simple English and "Dunke" and "Breath Gott" were all right.
-Is it okay if you can speak English in your life?

Horie Yes, it was okay.

Albert Franz sensei
-Franz sensei's lessons were 3 times in total. How was it?

Horie First of all, it started with the story of Brapier in the Mozart era. After that, I was climbing and my fingers hurt, so at the end, I taught you the posture when playing, how to play when your hands hurt, how to move your fingers, how to stretch your strength, etc. ..
-It wasn't just about playing the piano.

Horie That's right.I had some questions to ask, so I prepared some questions. In response, sensei answered politely one by one. Also, since the instructional book changed before and after World War I, there are many disabled people now due to the difference in how to play, but tell me that you can get rid of your pain by paying attention to your posture. Thank you. When I come back to Japan and actually play it, it still feels strange, but it certainly doesn't hurt.I was really surprised.
-Maybe that way of playing suits Horie.

Horie: It's a way of playing with your shoulders behind and your elbows not too open.It feels like a very nice uncle is playing, so my husband is laughing at it (laughs).
-But I'm glad I got rid of the pain.Is that the biggest discovery of Franz sensei's lessons?

Horie That's right!
-You don't really talk about posture in Japanese lessons, right?

Horie That's right. The shape of the elbows and fingers is sometimes pointed out, but in my case, it seems that my posture was bad and my shoulders were sticking out.Franz sensei found it, and I was able to realize that my elbows would come out because my shoulders were out.
-What was the actual flow of the lesson?

Horie: It was a normal lesson flow that started with the story of Mozart, asked to play it, played it, and fixed it.From the middle of the story, he started talking about "Oh, my fingers fall" and gave me various advice. When I asked a question, I took a note saying that the question was interesting, and it seemed that my reaction when sensei said something was unusual, and I took that as well (laughs). ..I intended to have a normal reaction, but it seems that sensei was fresh (laughs).
-I thought you were an interesting student.

Horie Later, the interpreter told me that sensei said, "You are an interesting subject" (laughs).
-It's an episode that really conveys the state of the lesson that seems to be fun.

Horie Yes, it was a lot of fun.
-How was your interpretation and interaction with Franz sensei?

As soon as Horie sensei finished talking, he translated me apart and told me exactly what I wanted to say. I didn't want to feel the stress of words because I had to communicate within the limited time of one and a half hours. I think it would be very tiring to look into the score with sensei, face each other, and ask what to do.In that sense, I'm glad that the interpreter came all three times. It was great that the interpreter was also able to play the piano. While sensei was taking notes of my reaction, I was exchanging "How do you play the interpreter?" And "I wonder if this is the case" (laughs).
-What kind of song did you see this time?

Horie Franz sensei heard that Mozart specializes, so I brought Mozart's sonatas.
-Did you prepare anything else?

Horie: It's a simple thing, and I took the Mendelssohn.I wanted to play Mendelssohn No. 1 in a more meaningful way.But in the end, I didn't go to the Mendelssohn, and the sonata ended with one song, and I felt like "Huh! It's time!" (Laughs).
-Is it the feeling that you taught me one song so much?Has anything changed by playing the sonata before and after taking Franz sensei's lessons?

Horie: After I came back, I had a look at Japanese sensei, and he said, "Your left hand is neatly organized."I got off the piano and practiced basketball because I wanted to do it like basketball to practice the continuous striking of Franz sensei and my left hand (laughs). It may have been effective.
-That sounds fun too.You talked about stretching earlier, but what kind of stretching did you learn?

Horie: By stretching the force, the arm is raised horizontally from the shoulder, the elbow is bent 90 degrees, and the thread is dropped like a marionette. In that state, my shoulders would come out, but I was repeatedly warned not to come out.

Clicking the practice room from the outside ...
-I think you had reserved a practice room in Vienna, but how was the practice room?

The room number was written on the form sent by Horie And Vision, so I could use the room without any problems.I think there were about 7 rooms and about 5 pianos.
-You took a lot of practice time, didn't you?Did you practice hard?

Horie You played hard on the first day.I had a lesson on the first day I arrived, so I practiced for about 1 hours after the lesson.I practiced while drinking water and biting the ham I bought at the supermarket (laughs).
-Ham?

Horie Yes.There was pretty good ham on sale, so I just grabbed it (laughs).
-How was your meal?

Horie First, I bought the ingredients at the supermarket. So, in the morning, I made a sandwich of tomato, cheese and ham on toast and ate it.I often wrapped it in a wrap and took it with me for lunch. After that, I ate at a sandwich chain store called Ankel, and at a Wiener Schnitzel store.
-Was Wiener Schnitzel delicious?

Horie: It's delicious, but ... it's really big. When I asked for it, something bigger than my face came out (laughs). It's thin and fluffy, but it's still bigger than the face, so it has a lot of volume, and on the day I ate Wiener Schnitzel, I could only eat it.
-What was your dinner like?

Horie On the first day, I ate out at an ordinary private restaurant, but I was surprised that the amount was a little large. There was a Japanese restaurant called Hidori, so I went there and it was delicious once I went there, so I went there every night (laughs). There were various kinds of karaage, set meals, yakitori, sushi rolls, and so on.There were only Japanese staff, so I was able to have a good time every night by listening to the local stories.
-Do you still miss Japanese food?

Horie: When I was young, I thought that I didn't feel like eating Japanese food until I came to a foreign country ... (laughs). The food over there is delicious, but when I'm eating Wiener Schnitzel and bread, I think I want to eat rice.I also sold rice to supermarkets, but most of the time I made breakfast and lunch myself, so I ate out saying that it would be better for dinner.

climbing
-How did you spend your time outside of lessons and practice?

Horie: Regarding my work, I went to visit the climbing gym.Looking at the building and scale over there, I felt it with my skin. After that, I made a reservation for the opera from Japan, so I was able to see "The Marriage of Figaro".
-Eh! That's good. After all, is the authentic one different?

Horie Yes.I often see it in Japan, but it's completely different. It was a venue where the building was circular and there were seats at the top. There were 1 or 4 seats, but it was still very realistic, and people around me hummed, sang, cheered on songs I knew, and so on. It was really good to be able to do it.
-You can't really experience that kind of thing in Japan.

Horie That's right.I have never had such an experience in Japan.
-Did you do any other sightseeing?

Horie: It was a small town with lots of attractions, so there were many tourist attractions while going from the lesson venue to the practice room. After that, I went sightseeing around Stefan Temple and the old town. But even if I didn't go somewhere, I just got on the train and there are many amazing buildings, so I enjoyed just looking at them.
-I think there were many opportunities to talk with local people other than Japanese and people of other nationalities, but are there any tips to talk about?

Horie: I thought I shouldn't grimaces, so I smiled and said "Dunke" and "Breath Gott".Even people passing by would say hello when they passed each other. When I greeted him, the person over there also returned with a smile.

Vienna flat
-You were staying flat this time, how was it?

Horie It was very interesting. It was good to see the actual situation of the life of the people of Vienna, which cannot be understood at hotels and camps.
-Did you have a chance to talk to the landlord?

Horie: He waited for me to hand over the keys on the first day, and explained the gas and keys in English.Apparently he was a Japanese landlord, and there was a Buddha statue in the corner of the room (laughs). It was a pretty big Buddha statue, a little bigger than an adult sitting on it, so I was very surprised. There was also a raccoon dog figurine, and it was an interesting house.
-How was the size of the room?

Horie: There were two double beds, and it was so big that I couldn't rent it with my family. My husband is doing design work, so I bought a scale locally and measured various things (laughs). And I was impressed with its size and color usage. The goodness of that sense is the same for other houses, and I felt that that sense came from the spirit of keeping the city clean. When my husband came back to Japan, he said, "The streets of Shinshu are strange, aren't they?" I was talking to a friend.
-Please tell us if you have a good moment to take the lesson this time.

Horie After all, I thought that seeing is believing. So far, I have been taught by various sensei people in books and sheet music, but it is like an invisible atmosphere and atmosphere that you can not understand unless you go to that place, a social climate where classic music has been cultivated. I think it was good to be able to feel. Also, when I came back to Japan, I thought that my horizons had expanded.I feel that something that was stuck in a small place has come out and can be seen from above.
-So that's it.

Horie Playing became a lot of fun, and the piano sensei said, " Horie, it looks fun."Also, when I was teaching, before I went, I was wondering if it would be okay for children who couldn't play much, but it changed because I studied abroad.I was wondering if great people would go to study abroad in music, but that wasn't the case, and Franz sensei taught me what I could do in it.After having such an experience and coming back, I wonder if it's okay to sing and play for 30 minutes in a 15-minute lesson, or to increase the repertoire of songs during that time, and have fun lessons. I came to think of giving it.
- Horie, what do you want to do in the future?

Horie sensei is studying Mozart, so I somehow learned Mozart because it's Vienna, but since this is also something related, I thought that I would be able to play Mozart's sonata properly. ..

In the practice room
-Would you like to take Franz sensei lessons again?

Horie Yes, that's right. If you don't like sensei (laughs).
-No, I wonder if that is the case.I'm sure you also remember sensei (laughs).Last but not least, please give some advice to those who are thinking of studying abroad.

Horie: Like myself, I thought it would be best to go when I wanted to, because I could fail before I got lost.I thought it was important to go out first, not when I had time or when I saved money. Then, I think the following things will come to mind naturally. At that time, I think that daily life is enough if you can speak simple junior high school level English. The situation may be different if the interaction with sensei is a long-term stay, but if it is a short-term stay of about a week, it is effective to have a limited time by attaching an interpreter and eliminating the stress of words. I thought it could be used for.
-So that's it.Thank you very much for your valuable experience today.
