Founded in 1857, San Jose State University is located in the Silicon Valley of Northern California and is known as the oldest university on the west coast of the United States.The Faculty of Music also dates back to 1871 and has the longest history of any university in California.Since then, it has produced many prominent performers, composers and music educators.It is characterized by its goal of fostering young musicians who will lead the next generation while being traditional.Today, our talented and top-notch music teachers offer a comprehensive and diverse program.
In the university course, there are BM degree in composition, jazz research, music education, performance, and BA degree in research such as performance / music general education + music technology.In the graduate course, we offer MA degree courses in performance, conducting (chorus, orchestra), jazz research, music education, and composition.In particular, composition is highly regarded both in the United States and abroad as a fine-tuned program.
Student ensembles include symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz orchestras, afro-latin jazz, jazz singers, choirs, and female choruses.We are active not only on campus but also in the city.The composition ensemble is taught by well-known composers.What's more, he has worked with professional groups such as the Cypress String Quartet and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and has a great track record.Minor ensembles include opera, jazz, brass, percussion, guitar, gospel, marching band, saxophone, gamelan, etc., each of which is actively engaged in regular concerts.
