The Freiburg University of Music was founded in 1946 by internationally renowned flutist Gustav Scheck. In 1964, as a German music education institution, it is known for its innovative school spirit, such as the establishment of the "New Music Institute" ahead of other schools.A modern electronic studio is also set up on campus.Students can come into direct contact with various electronic music devices and learn while touching the latest equipment.Other facilities include the Stage Music Institute, the Early Music Performance Institute, and the Medical Institute for Musicians.Since its inception, the school has welcomed and trained many talented music students from all over the world.Many of the graduates have become internationally renowned musicians and teachers and are active on the front lines of the music industry.Graduates include Bernd Gremzer (piano), Daishin Kashimoto (violin), Tabea Zimmermann (viola), Rahel Harnish (vocal), Wolfgang Rihm (composer), Hildegard Behrens (vocal), Fritz.
