Folkwang University of the Arts was founded in 1927 as a school of music, dance and speech.Since then, it has continued to develop and has been highly acclaimed as a revolutionary university that not only values tradition but also creates innovative ideas. In April 2010, the system was changed to the current university name by arranging a system suitable for a more global modern art education institution. We provide thorough professional education in five faculties.In addition, the city of Essen in western Germany, where the campus is located, was selected as the European Capital of Culture in 4.The blessed environment has also gained support, and students from all over the world have gathered. Currently, there are about 5 students enrolled in the entire school.In the university course of the Faculty of Music, we offer BMus acquisition courses in a variety of majors such as instrumental music, vocal music, jazz, composition, musicology, and music education.You can get a BA degree in musicology.In the graduate course, you can obtain an MA degree in MMus and musicology in a wide variety of majors such as instrumental music, vocal music, jazz, orchestra performance, and medieval music.There are studios equipped with professional-level equipment and advanced multimedia facilities on campus, so it is attractive to be able to learn while directly touching the latest technology.In addition, ensembles such as orchestras, brass bands, big bands, choirs, musicals, pops, and moderns are active, and more than 300 events are held annually.Many contests are held, and students are constantly improving their skills.
From such an artistic professional education and abundant experience, many musicians have been produced.Famous conductor Michael Harras, Siegfried Jerusalem, former Berliner Philharmoniker, including Rotor Tsagrozek (conductor) and Helmut Vinshermann (oboe), who are familiar in Japan.
