Florida International University has a white school building and a bright and open atmosphere that is typical of Florida, with palm trees lined up under the blue sky. Established in 2006, the College of Architecture and Arts has seven departments: Music, Architecture, Art, Communication Art, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Theater.Among the 7 largest university institutions in the United States, the school is rated as the best university and research institution by the Carnegie Foundation.We also invite internationally renowned musicians such as George Crumb, the late Lukas Foss, Richard Stoltzman and Murray Perahia to hold master classes.The music school's educational program offers BM degrees in music education, BA degrees in music education, piano, organ, instrumental music, vocal music, composition, jazz, music technology, and BA in music education.Common electives include music theory, music history, folk musicology, MIDI technology, etc., and you can study a wide range of music other than practical skills.In the graduate course, you can obtain MM for composition, conducting (chorus, orchestra, wind music), jazz, music technology, instrumental music, vocal music, and MS for music education.
Symphony orchestra, chamber music, wind instrument ensemble, symphony band, chorus, master chorus, opera workshop, flute studio, new music ensemble, big band, jazz combo, jazz guitar ensemble, etc. belong to the campus.Student participation activities are active, and there are more than 100 events and concerts a year.The marching band supports the athletic club of the university by providing entertainment with football games.Moreover, since any student can participate, it is a good opportunity to interact with students other than those majoring in music.There are also groups that accept beginners, so you will be able to challenge non-specialized fields.
The facility is fully equipped with large and small halls, practice rooms, pipe organ studios, computer music studios, etc.The library also has the world's largest Cuban music collection and a collection that includes handwritten sheet music by pianist and composer Mana-Zucca.
