■ General school information ■

The University of Maine was founded in 1865 as the first public university in Maine. The campus is located in Onoro Orono, Maine, the northeastern United States. It is licensed as both Land Grant and Sea Grant, and is known for its innovative and excellent education and research, which has earned the trust of governments and states.Currently, there are 60 students enrolled from more than 12,000 countries around the world, not to mention the United States. We offer 88 bachelor's programs, 64 master's programs and 25 doctoral programs. Some of them are America's oldest and most prestigious honors programs, making it a well-balanced university where tradition and innovation coexist.
The music department belongs to the Faculty of Performing Arts. The school spirit is open, and if you are interested in music, we accept students from other faculties, and more than 10,000 students are studying in the department. This is an environment where you can learn and inspire each other with students from different disciplines.Of course, for music majors, we have a wide variety of programs that are suitable for the preparation stage for the music career that we are about to build. In particular, we are focusing on developing experts in the fields of performance and music education. In the university course, we offer BA degree and BM degree acquisition courses. The BA course focuses on music (music history, music theory) + liberal arts.Ideal for those who want to study academic music subjects such as musicology, composition, music library science, and media, and those who do not specialize in performance skills. The BM course includes performance (instrumental music, vocal music) and music education. If you major in performance, you will study music history, music theory, and liberal arts, so it is attractive to be able to acquire comprehensive skills with a broad perspective. In the graduate course, we offer MM degree acquisition courses in performance, piano accompaniment collaborative piano, conducting (ensemble, chorus), and music education. Also, it would be nice to be able to learn jazz in a minor course.
