Western Michigan University was founded in 1903.Since then, it has grown rapidly from a regional Teachers College to an international higher education institution, becoming the University of Western Michigan in 1957.Currently, there are more than 94 students enrolled, including more than 1,260 international students from 25,000 countries around the world. It has nine colleges and offers approximately 9 degree programs in a wide range of disciplines.It is a state university that offers the second most specialized courses among the 240 public universities in Michigan.The Faculty of Music has its origins in an orchestra formed in 1905.Taking advantage of this tradition, we strive to develop professionals who contribute to a prosperous society beyond various boundaries.As part of this, we have partnered with schools, companies and foundations such as Yamaha, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, and the Gilmour International Keyboard Festival.In addition, we have a unique educational program that attracts students from all over the world.In the university course, BA degree in music + other majors, performance (instrumental music, jazz research, keyboard instrument / voice music), composition, music education (instrumental music, chorus / general music), BM degree in music therapy, elementary school education / music Offers BS degree acquisition courses.In the graduate program, you can obtain an MM degree in performance, composition, conducting, music education, and music therapy.In addition, there is a 4 semester summer master's program in practical music education.
The school is known for its extensive musical activities by students, teachers and staff. In 2010, about 365 spectators were mobilized at 5 events on campus.Off-campus, we held 295 events and mobilized about 10 people.In this way, we have created an environment where you can participate in the popular music events of the school and enjoy playing.With high motivation, you will naturally acquire the awareness of a musician.
