Truman State University was founded in 1867 as a Normal School & Commercial College. After that, it changed to Northeast Missouri State College and State University, and in 1985, it became the first public liberal arts and science university in the state. The name was changed to Truman State University in 1996, and we are aiming for further development. In the 2012 US News & World Report magazine, it ranked 8th overall in the Midwestern United States and 3rd in the "Thorough Education Policy" category. In this way, education and research that inherits the tradition that originated in the normal school and always pursues quality is highly evaluated. We are proud of our small class, which has about 5,800 students at all schools, which is unique to small universities, and has a good reputation for detailed instruction. The Faculty of Music also adopts a small group system that all students can see, so you can deeply understand the content of the lesson and proceed with the study while being convinced. The faculty has excellent specialists, and it is attractive to be able to take private lessons from well-known musicians. In the university course, we offer a BA degree for music + other subjects or general music (choose a specialty such as vocal music, instrumental music, piano, composition), and a BM degree for performance (instrumental music, voice music). In the graduate program, you can choose multiple majors according to your goals from fields such as performance, composition, and music research with a flexible MAE degree acquisition course. In addition, BA general music course students can earn additional credits and enter the MAE course directly in the fifth year, making it an ideal program for those who are considering going on to graduate school.
Besides classes, music activities such as ensembles and events are active.About 17 music groups such as orchestras, choirs, chamber orchestras, pep bands, marching bands, drum lines, and jazz combos belong to the campus.Join your favorite group and discover the joy of creating music with your friends.
