Music resonates with us in ways that go beyond words. But by knowing the words, we can dive even deeper into the ocean of music.
And Vision International Music School (AIMS) opens the door to broaden your musical horizons. This time, we are introducing music theory lessons for German-speaking students. In just 60 minutes, your perspective on music may change.
This lesson is a rare opportunity to experience authentic music theory, like that taught at a music university in a German-speaking country, while still in Japan. The lessons can be taken in either German or Japanese, so even if you are not confident in your language skills, you don't have to worry. You can develop two wings at the same time: music and language.
The teacher of the lessons is Otsuka Zaire Chie Sensei. Born in Tokyo, Sensei started playing piano at the age of 4, and graduated from the Toho Gakuen School of Music after graduating from the Toho Gakuen School of Music. While a student, she won the Pitina Piano Competition and held her first solo recital in Tokyo. After that, she went to Europe in 1994 and studied under Hans Peter Mandel at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She completed her master's degree in 2000.
Sensei Otsuka has also attended master classes with Rudolf Buchbinder and Andrzej Jasinski. He has performed in numerous solo and chamber concerts, and is a regular guest at the Austrian-American Society and the Musical Theatre Society. Since 2000, he has been teaching piano at the VHS Floridsdorf and singing accompaniment at the VHS Alsergrund, and student concerts with his students are regularly held at the Floridsdorf District Museum.
With this wealth of experience, Otsuka Sensei will guide you into the world of German-speaking music theory. Sensei knows the differences between Japanese and German-speaking music theory inside and out, so you can receive accurate advice.
There is a deep meaning to learning music theory in German-speaking countries. If you understand music terminology in German during your lessons, classes, or entrance exams, you will be able to appreciate music more deeply. It may be the key to opening new doors in music.
German music theory is a little different from Japanese music theory. Harmony analysis based on functional harmony theory, which develops the functional harmony of T tonica, S subdominant, and D dominant, is required as basic knowledge. Numbered bass notes are also commonly used, and inversions of triads, inversions of seventh chords, and non-harmonic notes are also expressed with numbers. This knowledge is used not only in theory classes, but also in actual lessons and classes.
In addition, students will be required to have practical skills in analyzing music based on formalism, and in the patterns and types of final forms. Students will also learn how to analyze sonata form, song ternary form, and rondo form, and how to use characteristic chords that have developed from basic harmonic progressions.
This lesson is ideal preparation for those considering studying music abroad in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, but even for those who are not considering studying abroad, it will be a great opportunity to discover new aspects of music.
In Otsuka Sensei's lessons, you can learn the basic knowledge, vocabulary, phrases, and musical terms necessary for the entrance exam to a music college in a German-speaking country in German. Through practical exercises such as harmonic analysis, they will support you in preparing to start studying abroad at a music college in a German-speaking country smoothly. For those who have insufficient training in solfege or ear training, they will supplement it with Sensei's own materials.
This is a special, one-time opportunity to experience the German music theory lessons offered at AIMS year-round. A 1-minute private lesson may open new doors for you in music.
Lessons are conducted online, but students can take the lessons at AIMS, wherever they have internet access, or at home, in the environment that best suits you.
Music transcends words. But by knowing the words, you can experience music more deeply. This is where you can encounter new music. Why not expand your musical world with AIMS' music theory lessons for German-speaking countries?
